A Series of Left-hand Turns

Updated: Dec 26, 2023

One November morning after coffee I found time to walk the streets of Hong Kong. Tsim Sha Tsui is a mess of textures and people moving with intention. Sounds of market doors opening, and food prep fill every available moment. It's a vibrant city separated by concrete pathways between commercial skyscrapers and residential towers and the taxis don't slow down.

What I like about photographs is that they capture a moment that’s gone forever, impossible to reproduce.

Hong Kong Taxi by Chris Hawkinson

In Hong Kong Taxis are color coded by region they serve and that makes it easy to get around. One driver was an out of work engineer working to make ends meet. He showed me the prison where they keep dissidents before professing his love for 1996 action film 'The Rock', starring Sean Connery, and Nicolas Cage.
